President Muhammadu Buhari said he has done his best for Nigeria. The statement came during a visit by the Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Forum, Sheikh Al-Mahfoudh Bin Bayyah, and his deputy, Pastor Bob Robert in Washington DC.
Recall that Buhari alongside his team which includes the minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, and other prominent cabals left the country for the USA for the US-Africa summit.
In his address, "we are big in size and population, facing many challenges, but in many areas, we are trying. In seven and a half years, I have done my best".
The spokesperson of the President, Garba Shehu asserted that solving the problem affecting youths is the priority of the current administration as they hope and look forward to a better future.
Speaking about the need to raise generations of youth devoid of religious extremism and bigotry, Buhari adjourns the group to continue to target the young people whose future is bright.
“Your work is very important in helping, especially the youth, to understand one another and at the same time, to be proud of their heritage.
“This great initiative by you will help future generations to plan well and live together in peace. On our part, we’ll continue to solve our problems, especially as they relate to the youths.”
Bin Bayyah said they had come to inform the President, and to invite him to attend the conferment upon him, the Abu Dhabi Foundation’s award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in promoting peace and security.
He said the conferment was in line with the Foundation’s work in fighting religious extremism and promoting peaceful coexistence and dialogue amongst all religions.
Relative to the current situation in the country, some Nigerians felt awful about the president's comment however, many had come out to praise the leader.
A section of Nigerians said that he might have done his best but it wasn't good enough as certain decisions and policies like the closure of the border have taken a swipe at the citizen and induced more hardship.
That not notwithstanding, others believe that the president has done well in critical areas like infrastructure and the economy especially when you size the available resources.
No matter how you look at it, anyone given a mandate has the right to feel they have given out their all while others are left to judge or opine what they feel.
